Countdown to Race Day7.July.2019
Penong’s teams up with Sunrise to promote healthy lifestyle

Penong’s Barbecue Seafood & Grill teams up with Sunrise Events to promote a healthy lifestyle on the global stage with the holding of the Penong’s 5150 Triathlon Davao on July 7, 2019 at the Waterfront Hotel. The Go For Gold Sunrise Sprint will also be held on the same day and venue.

Penong’s is a company focused on health according to owner Maria Teresa Regis which makes it a perfect partner to stage a triathlon race.

“Penong’s is not about just food. It is about health. We are concerned with the health of people especially of those in Davao. We want to develop that awareness of the importance of health among people,” said Regis.

Penong’s co-owner Vanessa Mae Uy Santos added that when you think of Penong’s you think of family which dines together at their favorite eatery. Of engaging in a common activity like a race they can join together.

“Penong’s is all about family. Triathlon for us, based on our personal experience, is bonding of the family doing a shared activity. And it’s a healthy lifestyle also,” said Uy Santos.

“We want to be the model, especially to our employees, to have a healthy lifestyle. It’s not just work, work, work. You need to have other diversions aside from work.”

The 5150 races and the Sunrise Sprints are perfect for those who are joining a triathlon for the first time including graduates of the Alaska IRONKIDS who may find the 70.3 IRONMAN too daunting a challenge according to Sunrise Events General Manager Princess Galura. Teaming up with Penong’s to stage the race in Davao was an easy choice.

“They (Penong’s) are a homegrown brand. They are really from Davao. When the idea to hold a 5150 in Davao came up. That new triathletes needed to start at shorter distance. Penong’s said it was perfect for them. Sunrise Events will stage a race in Davao. Penong’s owners were able and willing to be the title sponsor. It’s a good preparation for the IRONMAN 70.3 in Cebu on August 11,” said Galura.

Regis said they appreciated the opportunity to team up with Sunrise Events to hold a world-class race in Davao.

“Our goal is to be recognized from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. We like the objective of Sunrise Events. We admire their marketing strategy that is why we partnered with them,” said Regis.

The 5150 or Olympic distance race as well as the Sunrise Sprints are perfect introductory races for those joining a triathlon for the first time according to Regis.

“I used to join full triathlons. But now I will join the relay. My husband doesn’t run or swim. So he will bike. All my children are into triathlon. Their ages are 24, 21, 18 and 11. My youngest joins the IRONKIDS,” said Regis.

“I was really an athlete from way back. I was into softball. Marathon. Now triathlon, where my whole family races with me. Triathlon is really a nice sport to participate in. You even have the chance to travel. Triathlon is really a family event for us.”

The Olympic distance Penong’s 5150 Triathlon Davao includes a 1.5km swim, a 40km bike and a 10km run. The Sunrise Sprint includes a 750m swim, a 20km bike and a 5km run.
